The target group for the new standard is anyone involved with technical documentation in a mechanical and plant engineering environment. It is intended to support those who produce instruction handbooks. EN ISO 12100 already contains a section on producing instruction handbooks, see clause 6.4.5. The authors’ aim is for this new standard to provide more specific information. Some key points are explained in greater detail:

  • More in-depth target group analysis
  • More specific security information
  • More user-friendly troubleshooting
  • "Up-to-date publication media”, i.e. either printed on paper or “as an electronic data medium, provided with the machine”

Once published as EN ISO 20607, the standard becomes the first standard harmonised with the Machinery Directive to contain specific requirements for designing instruction handbooks.
Details of its relationship with the Machinery Directive can be found in our first news piece on the drafting of ISO 201607.
