In the instructions for use, is it mandatory to use the same colours for symbols etc as those used on the machine?

According to the Machinery Directive, the same colour coding for the machine and instructions is not mandatory. What is important, however, is that the instructions explain the pictograms/symbols in a way that is readily understandable to each operator. A standard display on the machine and instructions is part of this. Should this be possible without colour coding, then it can be left out. If not, a colour or some other type of distinction is absolutely essential.
