What has changed with the standard EN ISO 12100?

The standard EN ISO 12100:2010 "Safety of machinery - General principles for design - Risk assessment and risk reduction" has been listed in the Official Journal of the European Union since 08.04.2011. As a result, "presumption of conformity" has applied to this standard since this date.

EN ISO 12100:2010 – The central standard for machinery safety
The standard EN ISO 12100:2010 arose from the merger of EN ISO 12100-1, EN ISO 12100-2 and EN ISO 14121-1; today it represents the central standard for machinery safety. However, presumption of conformity still applies for the consolidated standards (EN ISO 12100-1, EN ISO 12100-2, EN ISO 14121-1) until 30.11.2013.

There are no technical changes
The publication ISO/TC 199 N 833 states that there have been no technical changes connected to the consolidation of the three standards. The technical changes are limited exclusively to the contents connected to the revised Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. So existing documentation (e.g. risk assessments, Type C standards) does not need to be updated with regard to the new standard.

Reducing redundancies and simplifying application
Consolidation into one standard has reduced redundancies and is intended to make it significantly easier to apply the standard. A table in the publication ISO/TC 199 N 833 shows which sections of the "old" standards are in which sections of EN ISO 12100:2010.
