Safe motion – First across the line

Achieve up to performance level PL e with any feedback system

Safe motion

Safe motion makes wishes come true: With the safety card, your drive achieves up to performance level PL e of EN/ISO 13849-1, with all common motor feedback systems and fieldbuses! This increases the productivity of your machines by up to 20%. Drive-integrated safety functions such as "safely reduced speed" are also available. This saves you time, reduces errors and increases safety during setup.

Efficient and safe – Be first across the line with safe motion!

Safe motion monitoring functions

The safety card also provides safe motion monitoring functions in accordance with EN 61800-5-2. Using safe, fast communication with the real-time Ethernet SafetyNET p RTFL, the safe motion solution is connected directly to the safe small controller PNOZmulti 2 and also enables safe cross-communication between the drives.

Benefit from short reaction times and reduce the work and costs related to hardware by switching from I/O components to safe communication.

Benefits that will keep you on the safe side:

  • High plant availability thanks to short reaction times
  • Safety up to PL e with one encoder (standard feedback system)
  • Higher productivity thanks to new motion monitoring safety functions with the flexibility to adjust the error reaction
  • Flexible configuration and fast commissioning thanks to the clear software tool
  • Open drive solution for all common bus systems, independent of motor types and feedback systems

Features of safe motion solution:

Features of safe motion solution.
  • Costs are reduced because maximum safety up to PL e is achieved with one standard feedback system – without a second encoder
  • Servo amplifiers PMCprotego D are designed in accordance with EN/IEC 62061 (SIL 3), EN ISO 13849-1 (up to PL e)
  • Safety card PMCprotego S complies with EN 61800-5-2
  • Parameters for multiple safety cards can be set quickly and easily using a centralised software tool.
  • Devices are easy to exchange thanks to the SD memory card (standard and safety configuration)
  • Less wiring thanks to integrated mains filter (complies with EMC standards)

Safe stop functions

Safe torque off

Safe torque off

With the "safe torque off" function (STO), the power to the motor is safely removed directly within the servo amplifier. The drive cannot generate any hazardous movements. If the STO is activated when the drive is moving, the motor will run down in an uncontrolled manner.

Safe stop 1

Safe stop 1

With the "safe stop 1" function, the drive is brought to a controlled stop and then the power to the motor is safely removed. When the drive is at standstill, it can no longer generate any hazardous movements.

Safe stop 2

Safe stop 2

With the "safe stop 2" function, the drive is brought to a controlled stop and then a "Safe operating stop" is initiated. In the "safe operating stop" condition, the
drive's control functions are maintained in full.

Safe motion functions

Safe operating stop

Safe operating stop

The "safe operating stop" function monitors the stop position reached by the axis and prevents any deviation from the position window. The drive’s control functions are maintained in full. If the position strays outside of the monitored window, the drive is shut down safely.

Safely limited speed

Safely limited speed

The "safely limited speed" function (SLS) monitors the drive to check that a defined maximum speed is not exceeded. If the speed limit value is exceeded, the drive is shut down safely.

Safe speed range

Safe speed range

The "safe speed range" function adds minimum speed monitoring to the SLS function. The result: the maximum speed must not exceed a certain value, and the minimum speed must not drop below a certain value. If either of these limits is violated, the drive is shut down.

Safe direction

Safe direction

The "safe direction" function guarantees that a drive can only move in one (defined) direction. If the specified direction is violated, the drive is shut down safely.

Safely limited position

Safely limited position

"Safely limited position" (SLP) monitors all end limits, such as safe range monitoring on robots or linear axes for example.

Safely limited increment

Safely limited increment

The "safely limited increment" function (SLI) performs the safe motion tasks when material is fed into the process in "safely limited increments". This is relevant in the case of e.g. roll feed on presses.

Safe brake functions

Safe brake control

Safe brake control

The "safe brake control" function enables brakes to be controlled safely, thereby preventing suspended loads from falling.

Safe brake test

Safe brake test

The "safe brake test" function monitors the function of the brake. This test can be used to identify any faults in the brake’s control and mechanics. The brake test is carried out in each production cycle or only every 24 hours, depending on the specific application and the requirement from the risk analysis.

Safe motion monitoring functions in accordance with EN 61800-5-2

Safely monitored direction (SDI-M)

Safely monitored direction (SDI-M)

The "safely monitored direction" function monitors the drive movement to ensure it complies with the direction specified. If exceeded, a signal is output; there is no immediate shutdown. Depending on the configuration, an SS1 is not triggered.

Safely monitored increment (SLI-M)

Safely monitored increment (SLI-M)

The "safely monitored increment" function is used to monitor the relative position safely. The current position when monitoring is activated serves as the reference position. If exceeded, a signal is output; there is no immediate shutdown. Depending on the configuration, an SS1 is not triggered.

Safely monitored speed (SLS-M)

Safely monitored speed (SLS-M)

The "safely monitored speed" function ensures a defined maximum speed is monitored. If exceeded, a signal is output; there is no immediate shutdown. Depending on the configuration, an SS1 is not triggered. Permanent monitoring is optional.

Safely monitored operating stop (SOS-M)

Safely monitored operating stop (SOS-M)

The standstill position remains active thanks to the "safely monitored operating stop" function. If there is any deviation from the monitored position window, there is a signal; the drive is not shut down immediately. Depending on the configuration, an SS1 is not triggered.

Safely monitored position (SLP-M)

Safely monitored position (SLP-M)

"Safely monitored position" monitors the absolute position, such as end limits in range monitoring on robots and linear axes for example. If exceeded, a signal is output; there is no immediate shutdown. Depending on the configuration, an SS1 is not triggered. Permanent monitoring is optional.

Safely monitored speed range (SSR-M)

Safely monitored speed range (SSR-M)

The "safely monitored speed range" function is used to monitor minimum and maximum speed. If values are above or below the limit values, a signal is output; there is no immediate shutdown. Depending on the configuration, an SS1 is not triggered. Permanent monitoring is optional.

Safe restart interlock (SRL) and safe status output (SSO)

In addition to the monitoring functions, the "safe restart interlock" function prevents a reset from allowing the safety module to leave the operating state STO. As a result, there is no possibility of the motor starting up unexpectedly or unintentionally. Activation can be connected to the safe input: "ACT" or "SS1_ACT" or "STO_ACT". The current status of the safety module is available thanks to the "safe status output". Activation is via the outputs: "Ready", "FSRUN" and "FAULT".

Versatile applications – Safe motion as scalable solution

The servo amplifier with integrated PMCprotego DS safety card provides a flexible and scalable safety solution. They individually combine all the safety functions that your application needs.
The "safe torque off" function is the basis of each of the safety functions. It is included even on the basic version of the servo amplifier PMCprotego D. The plug-in safety card provides numerous other safety functions.

Ideal for any application in which speed is monitored depending on the selected operating mode. Example applications could be:

  • Safe setup
  • Suspended loads / vertical axes
  • Process monitoring/observation
  • Safe intervention in the process
  • Machining centres
  • Automated guided vehicle systems
  • Pick & place by robots
  • Stage design
  • Palletising
