Adjustable guards are used when access to the danger zones cannot be completely prohibited. This is the case on the bit for a drilling machine or on a circular saw blade, for example. Depending on the type of work involved, they must be adjustable manually or automatically and be readily adjustable without the use of tools.
Adjustable guards restricting access
The guard must be easy to adjust, to avoid operating personnel leaving it in the widest open position because the adjustment is too complex. The guard must not be easy to remove.
Standard for adjustable guards restricting access
In Europe, the standard EN 953 (ISO 14120) describes in detail the requirements for guards.
Standard | Title |
