Pilz at Smart Production Solutions 2024, Hall 9, Stand 370 – “Safety und Security in Transformation” - Safe automation for the transformation!

As part of SPS Smart Production Solutions (12-14 November 2024), Pilz will be focusing on its holistic automation solutions, including Safety and Security for a digitised industrial world. Key areas include safe, flexible connectivity. Pilz will focus on solutions with the configurable small controller PNOZmulti 2, which make it easier to connect directly to the field. Pilz also has its sights on miniaturisation as the driver of a sustainable industrial transformation: for the safeguarding of safety gates, the expert will be exhibiting its new, compact safety gate system PSENmgate, which is both a safety locking device and a control element. Also on show will be the new inductive version of the safety switch PSENini, which no longer requires a proprietary actuator.

Pilz supports flexible expansion and rapid commissioning of modular and decentralised production plants as an important aspect of a successful transformation. Data communication is a relevant component in this regard. It must be designed for maximum flexibility and must be able to implement both safety-related and standard communication. Pilz is constantly expanding its portfolio in this area: in Nuremberg, the automation company will be showing how the IO-Link Safety Master PDP67 can process IO-Link Safety and failsafe signals, as well as IO-Link and standard signals. This enables seamless communication at field level, whether communication is safety-related or standard. Also on show will be the safe radar system PSENradar, which is easy to connect to the open safety protocol Safety over EtherCAT FSoE: cabling work and costs are reduced as a result.

“Small” supports sustainability and performance in a big way
Miniaturisation is also an important aspect of the transformation. It ensures efficient and sustainable processes in industry because it saves both energy and space. Pilz supports this aspect of industrial transformation with safe, yet compact sensor solutions, such as the compact safety locking device PSENslock 2 or the safety locking device PSENmlock mini, for space-critical applications. At SPS, the company will be presenting two new safe sensors for this purpose: the compact safety gate system PSENmgate and the new inductive safety switches PSENini. As a system designed to safeguard safety gates, PSENmgate combines the classic safety locking device PSENmlock and the control element PITgatebox in one solution. The new safety gate system takes up less space on the safety gate, and combines this with maximum protection against manipulation and defeat. The solution reduces power consumption while simultaneously offering a flexible and versatile installation for a range of applications. Also, the inductive operating principle of the new type of proximity switch PSENini no longer requires a proprietary actuator and thus saves space on the machine. A long service life and the resulting high productivity are further advantages for an industry in transformation.

Small controller with a direct “link”
Reliable and flexible communication at field level is a prerequisite for ensuring high availability in industry, today and tomorrow. For this purpose, the safe small controller PNOZmulti 2 now offers the new input and output modules PDP67. These are installed directly on the machine and reliably collect the signals from sensors connected in the field or pass control signals to actuators in the field. The decentralised periphery can thus be connected directly. Also, with the protocol Safety-over-EtherCAT FSoE (FSoE), safe plant structures can now be implemented more quickly at fieldbus level via a “one-cable solution”. As a result, machines are highly available, reliable and safe.
Experts from Pilz will also explain how solutions with PNOZmulti 2 make it easier to connect decentralised periphery or safety-related plant structures. Because seamless communication in conjunction with PNOZmulti 2 is also a feature of Safe Motion from Pilz. The safe automation expert has its new Safe Motion solution integrated directly in the drive. This safety solution for the servo amplifiers PMC now uses secure, fast communication via FSoE and can therefore be connected directly to the safe small controller PNOZmulti 2. So Safe Motion within the drive guarantees high plant availability thanks to short reaction times, and by avoiding downtimes.

From automation solution to safe access, everything from “A” to “Z”
In addition to its automation solutions, Pilz will also provide information about the Safety and Security requirements of the Machinery Regulation and present the appropriate Pilz service package. Comprehensive Identification and Access Management I.A.M. will be another area of focus for Pilz: visitors to the exhibition will discover how I.A.M. contributes to greater Safety and Industrial Security by controlling access to machines and processes.
