Safe pneumatic equipment of machinery

Safe pneumatic equipment of machinery

Pneumatics rank among the drive technologies in engineering, alongside electrics and hydraulics.

Safe pneumatics can be divided into two areas:

  • Basic principles in accordance with EN ISO 13849-2 in Annex B. For example: compressed air preparation or pressure limitation.
  • Appropriate protective measures for pneumatic drives (control technology solutions that move a cylinder in accordance with a desired behaviour).

Protective measures for safety-related pneumatics describe circuit-based solutions. These include:

  • Protection against unexpected start-up
  • Ventilation and venting
  • Braking the movement
  • Blocking the movement
  • Reversing the movement
  • Free movement option
  • Balancing forces on the drive
