Operational safety

If modifications are made that do not represent a significant change, who is responsible for the safety of these modifications?

The operator must ensure that he only provides his employees with work equipment that is safe. In order to ensure this, the operator should be able to produce the following documents:

  • A document that reviews a significant change (argumentation as to why there is no significant change)
  • Full, up-to-date machine documentation (what else can be done to instruct/induct staff)
  • An approval report for the modified machine (electrical approval, approval of functional safety)
  • The existing hazard assessment for the modified machine should be inspected for validity

However, the operator can delegate production of these documents contractually. This means that when he delegates the work he must ensure that production of this documentation is included in the order.
