Pilz at IN.STAND 2023: Focus on retrofit - The route to safe machinery

How can I preserve the safety and productivity of my machine? Experts from the automation company Pilz will show you how at the IN.STAND exhibition in Stuttgart from 7 - 8 November 2023. Keyword: safety-related retrofits. Complete, individual solutions from Pilz support plant and machine operators as they work towards a sustainably safe machine: from analysis of the existing machine through to validation of the implemented conversion measures for greater productivity, safety and sustainability.

At IN.STAND 2023, Pilz will advise visitors on how to upgrade their machinery to the safety-related state of the art. In doing so Pilz can provide support with innovative products and services. The comprehensive package of services from Pilz ranges from safety-related assessment in accordance with the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health, and the creation of a safety design, through to implementation of the retrofit, including any training measures that may subsequently be required, plus final validation. On the stand, experts from Pilz will advise on which machine retrofit is the right individual route for the respective operator – and therefore also the most efficient.

Overrun measurement live on site
A highlight on the exhibition stand: Pilz experts perform an overrun measurement live on an eccentric press, which has been converted to the state of the art. Thus it’s possible to check directly on site whether the specified safety distances correspond to the machine's current state. Pilz takes care of the legally prescribed inspection of safeguards with regard to installation, condition and function. To do this, Pilz GmbH & Co. KG, Ostfildern, operates an independent inspection body, accredited by DAkkS in accordance with ISO IEC 17020.

Do’s and don’ts of retrofit
In a second live show, Pilz experts on the stand will reveal the most important myths surrounding electrosensitive protective equipment (ESPE). Drawing directly from practical experience, experts will use the most important do’s and don’ts to explain what needs to be considered with a safety-related retrofit. “How relevant is the distance from the danger zone when installing an ESPE?” or “Does an installed ESPE require regular inspection?” The specialists know the answers.

Safety and Security: Clearly regulate access
Generally these days, the route to a safe machine no longer lies with classic safeguards, but primarily with a new access permission system for plant and machinery. So, by retrofitting a digital access permission system PITreader for example, RFID technology can be used to protect applications from unauthorised access – the key to comprehensive safety. Individual permissions are granted to authorised users only, on a compact RFID transponder, which they use to identify themselves directly on the safety gate. Visitors to the Pilz stand can try this out and experience it directly on the exhibits on the Pilz stand.

Safe + productive: The “IN.STAND expert forum on maintenance”
The accompanying “IN.STAND expert forum on maintenance” powered by Pilz will take place at the exhibition again this year. On the second day of the exhibition (8.11.), the forum and its presentations offer sufficient opportunity for an exchange with experts about hot topics such as: “New Machinery Regulation – What does it mean for me?” from Pilz, “Smart maintenance in the conflict between sustainability and AI” from the Fraunhofer Institute or “Production Level 4 - To the production of the future with data spaces” from SMART Factory KL.
