What did you do before your studies and why did you decide to take the engineering management course?
“Before taking this course I was at school taking my school leaving exam. I decided to take the engineering management course because it combines technical and business content and so gives me real flexibility when it comes to careers after my course. What’s more, electrical engineering is an industry with lots of potential for the future.”
What type of projects can a student expect during the practical phases at Pilz?
“As an engineering manager, you can work on a wide range of subjects. These may be interface projects between technical and business areas, but could also involve going deeper into the respective field, such as market analyses or product portfolio analyses. I find it great that I have a high level of independence and personal responsibility on all projects, and that my work is always valuable and important for the department."
Which departments will a student get to know in the course of their studies?
“As an engineering manager you get to know a lot of departments. The training workshop for the basics of electronics and mechanics, quality management, product management, plus the finance, sales or even purchasing department.”
What has been your personal highlight so far in your studies?
"My personal highlight was the “power week” at the start of our course. During this week we could get to know each other really well through a range of activities, such as caving and a trip to a climbing park. Another highlight will definitely be the placement abroad at one of our subsidiaries."
How do you find the work environment at Pilz?
"I find the work environment at Pilz very friendly. I had early contact with the department I would later work in, and subsequently received a warm welcome and was included right from the start."
What do you like in particular about your studies at Pilz?
"Having various assignments in different departments makes studying at Pilz quite special. What I also really like is that I can make my own decisions and have a say in my practical assignments or projects. Pilz recruits its students according to need. As a result, I know the department I will be working in right from the start and can prepare in the best way possible during my studies.”
What are you likely to do next, when you’ve finished your studies?
"After my studies I can probably continue to work on many exciting projects in the department I’m aiming for, Sales International. I’ve yet to decide whether I’ll also study for a masters. Pilz will support that in any case."
What would you recommend to future students?
"I would recommend internships first, so that you are well informed about the profession, plus an interest in maths and physics, and possibly information technology or economics. During the course, don’t get flustered by (lots of) new content."
