What did you do before your studies and why did you decide to take the electrical engineering - electronics course?
“Before taking this course I did my school leaving exam. I had always been really interested in technology, initially with devices, more recently with electronics. That’s why the course appealed to me so much - it was the exact area that I wanted to know more about. Also, I always found it exciting to see how products originate and how they are developed. That was the reason why I decided to take the electronics course, where you work in product development. It’s exactly the right course for me.”
What type of projects can a student expect during the practical phases at Pilz?
“The projects that the students work on are always based on current need. You can’t really say in advance, generally speaking. In my case it looks like I will work continuously on product development.”
Which departments will a student get to know in the course of their studies?
“That depends completely on what you are studying. I work for the most part in product development, but I will spend part of my course in customer support. But what every student can expect at the start of their course is the first practical phase in the training workshop, where you learn the basics of soldering and drilling, through to programming.”
What has been your personal highlight so far in your studies?
“Up to now my highlight has been training on the PSS4000, a controller from Pilz. I really liked the training, as it was very well structured. You could look at how the controller works and even have a go at programming.”
How do you find the work environment at Pilz?
"In the time I have been at Pilz I have found the work environment to be very good, calm, and above all open."
What do you like in particular about your studies at Pilz?
"The best thing for me is the great way people treat each other and the friendly employees. You immediately start the day in a good mood. I particularly like the fact that, in medium sized companies such as Pilz, you have a name, and are not just a number."
What are you likely to do next, when you’ve finished your studies?
"When I’ve successfully completed my bachelor’s degree, my plan at the moment is to start studying for my master’s as soon as possible. Pilz will support me with this too."
What would you recommend to future students?
"You should have some prior knowledge before starting your course. Alternatively you could consider an internship beforehand. An interest in maths and physics, and enjoying learning about new subjects, are a good basis. If you enjoy programming, then this course is definitely the right choice."
