Can a machine be placed on the market without instructions for use, if these are supplied at a later date?

The instructions for use are produced by the manufacturer or by his authorised representative established in the Community. They must be produced in one of the official languages. When a machine is put into service, the original instructions for use must be supplied, where necessary with a translation into the local language of the country where the machine is to be used.

The instructions for use must contain the plans and diagrams needed for putting the machine into service, maintaining it, checking its functionality and if appropriate repairing it, as well as all appropriate information, particularly with regard to machinery safety.

Any mistake in the instructions can have legal implications if the mistake has resulted in an accident. It is permitted only to provide the instructions for use in written form.
