The Swedish railway authority Trafikverket relies on the innovative railway solution from Pilz for its digitisation project - Safe control technology for the Swedish railway network

The automation expert Pilz has won a tender from the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket. Pilz was awarded the contract to modernise the communications infrastructure across the nationwide rail network. Based on the Pilz railway controller, data transfer will be converted from analogue, copper technology to more powerful, more reliable glass fibre technology.

Trafikverket recently announced that Pilz was one of the successful bidders in the tender “Safe Relay Messages over Opto (SRO)”. This will see the infrastructure on railway lines gradually converted to digital technology. With 14,200 kilometres of track, Trafikverket owns and manages the majority of the Swedish rail network.

Digitisation? Safety guaranteed!
In future, the innovative railway control system from Pilz will take over communication between the interlockings and control cabinets on the line, based on the safe real-time Ethernet SafetyNET p. For example, it can be used to forward information about the utilisation of the line or to control signals. The digital I/O signals are transferred via glass fibre long-distance connections. The solution from Pilz also guarantees safe operation in accordance with SIL4 and EN 50126.
