Pilz provides a qualification for security experts with the new course "CESA – Certified Expert for Security in Automation” - Certified Security Know-how

With the qualification “CESA – Certified Expert for Security in Automation”, the automation expert Pilz offers a two-day expert course, which gives delegates concise security knowledge in line with the current status of the standards. As a result they are equipped to take effective technical and organisational security measures in industrial automation systems. They can reduce the risk of manipulation or attacks, in order to guarantee safety and availability.

The increasing threat from cyberattacks endangers not only the safety of industrial environments but also their productivity. In addition there are normative and legal security specifications that present new challenges to manufacturers, integrators and operators. To build up the relevant knowledge within companies, with CESA Pilz is expanding its training offer to include concise further training for specialists to become security experts.
The training content includes the differences between the specific security requirements of operational technology (OT) and general information technology (IT), as well as the legal normative requirements. The focus here is on the standard IEC 62443 “Industrial communication networks – Network and system security” – from risk analysis through to safe operation of machinery. This is currently the best guidance on offer for plant operators and device manufacturers. Another key area is the explanation of threat scenarios and potential defence strategies.

Security from A-Z
In two days, the experienced trainers impart Pilz’s long-standing Safety and Security know-how, which is based on practical experience and participation in international standards committees. As a result, training delegates acquire comprehensive specialist knowledge on legal principles and normative requirements. What’s more, the training covers practical risk reduction measures, such as access control, increase of network security using technical means and organisational measures to avoid security risks.

Knowledge to aid practical implementation
This training is aimed at manufacturers, integrators and users of industrial automation systems, as well as plant engineers, IT security officers or project engineers. Once the test is completed successfully, delegates have the specialist standards’ knowledge they need to implement technical and organisational security measures in an industrial environment. They receive the globally recognised TÜV NORD certificate for “CESA – Certified Expert for Security in Automation”, and can thus demonstrate that they have the knowledge to safeguard industrial automation systems in accordance with modern cybersecurity standards.
