Safe procedures with safety light curtains PSENopt II

With the new generation of electrosensitive protective equipment PSENopt II from Pilz, the Austrian company SRW Automation & Services GmbH is solvings a whole set of automation and safety tasks around robot applications, rotary table systems, infeed and outfeed. The key factor for using the safety light curtain was its high robustness and the fast reaction times. And there was another plus: Type 3 light curtains were required, and Pilz is the only company to include these in its portfolio.

Rapid-reaction safety solution with the greatest possible flexibility

Safety light curtain on the cartoner

SRW opted for a barrier-free safety solution from Pilz in two different plants: Light curtains PSENopt II safeguard the process on a cartoner filling station, which erects cartons fed in via conveyor technology and then has a robot stack them in transport containers. They enable flexible loading and unloading, without disrupting the production process. PSENopt II are also used on an assembly cell where components are first placed in position and then pressed into a printed board. Here they ensure that hazards caused by the integrated 6-axis robot, the servo press and/or the moveable round table are excluded.

It was equally decisive for both SRW applications that PSENopt II meets the maximum flexibility requirements for infeed/outfeed and also in handling. In addition, there was the requirement to use an economical type solution: the light curtains cover this with their Type 3. It was generally paramount for SRW to obtain a highly available complete safety solution with user-friendly diagnostic and maintenance features.

"We opted for the new PSENopt II light curtains from Pilz because they are the only light curtains that meet the requirements of category 3, with fast, simple assembly, which reduce the installation and commissioning phase and are suitable for almost all our tasks."
