The automation company Pilz expands its portfolio by the new product range Service Robotics: The Pilz Service Robotics modules include initially the robot arm, the control module and the operator module. The essential features are openness, i.e. thanks to the software framework ROS, user-friendly operation and fast commissioning according to the plug-and-play principle. This enables users to assemble their individual service robot applications.

Pilz expands its portfolio by modules for service robotics in an industrial environment - Pilz service robotics modules - open for service tasks in industry
Robot arm, control module and operator module together form a package certified by the German statutory accident insurance association (DGUV) in accordance with EN ISO 10218-1 "Robots and robotic devices" and they provide the requirements for the implementation of safe robot applications. This simplifies the way to the obligatory CE marking. The areas of application also include Pick & Place applications and modular semi-automated small robot cells in industry.
Modular block for service robotics
The robot arm is developed by Pilz and it has a machine load of 6 kg. Thanks to 6 aces, a weight of 20 kg and a supply voltage of 24 VDC it is extremely suitable for use in mobile applications, for example combined with an automatic guided vehicle (FTS) .
In the PRCM control module the Pilz drive and control technology takes care of the movement and safety control of the robot. According to the Plug-and-Play principle users can connect the modules and use them immediately. The control module supports open industry communication protocols such as CANopen, Ethercat or Profibus. Pilz RCM can be programmed with PLC languages in accordance with IEC 61131-3 ad via the Open Source Framework ROS (Robot Operating System) and it therefore offers a large degree of openness for functional expansions.
Pilz developed software modules for the control of robots based on the ROS-Frameworks Software module previously known from the research environment. The software offers functions for sensor processing, evaluation, planning and control of robots. The aim is to use ROS also in industrial applications.
Everything within view
The operator module PRTM enables the operation of the robot via a graphical user interface, thanks to an operator and visualisation system developed by Pilz. The panel offers the functions of operating mode selection, emergency stop and diagnostics. It permits simple setup and teaching of the robot arm via a sensitive touch display.
Complete solution for safe robot applications
"Pilz is a technology company that offers complete solutions for safe robotics", explains Susanne Kunschert, Managing Partner of Pilz GmbH & Co.KG. "As a system supplier for service robotics, Pilz can support users when implementing their individual robot applications, including the requires safe sensor technology and the required services on the way to CE marking", she adds.
On the Automatica 2018 fair (19. – 22. June 2018) in Munich, Pilz will present its service robotics module to the public for the first time. Pilz presents in hall B4, stand 500.
