How are safety requirements implemented with ROS?

The safety assessment is carried out independently from ROS: In our system, safety is guaranteed by incorporating a safety controller. This monitors the safety-related aspects and can stop the robot safely if needed (STO).
ROS is “notified” immediately about the current status and other safety-related details via a direct communication channel between ROS and the safety controller.
