The new training year started at the automation company Pilz in Ostfildern on 5 September. A total of six trainees and 6 students from the dual system offered by the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (DHBW) are starting their professional careers. In addition to the training places, Pilz also offers a wide range of internships, providing support with career choice orientation. This traditional company is deeply rooted in the region, acting as mentor and providing support as a member of the "Society of Friends of Esslingen University of Applied Sciences".
Start of the new training year at Pilz in Ostfildern – Education without limits
Studies or vocational training? – with the automation experts from Pilz, school leavers have the choice. Classic professions requiring vocational training are the training courses for "Mechatronic engineers" or "Electronics engineers for devices and systems", which last more than three and a half years. Cooperation with Baden Württemberg University (DHBW) has been in place for some years already – Pilz offers the dual course of study via the Faculty of Technology in the following courses: “Electrical engineering, specialising in automation”, "Computer science, specialising in information technology", “Applied computer science" and “Engineering management”, in this case with the focus on “Production and logistics”. Stefanie Adams is dual-system student: "The training at Pilz is very well organised: My training plan is fixed for three years, so I always know what comes when. I also attend lots of courses on subjects such as IT or Lotus Notes – it's a totally different scenario for some of my fellow students," she says, summarising her course of study.
Going abroad – worldwide learning is part of it
Workplace training abroad is also a fixed part of the training for trainees and DHBW students. At least one stay abroad with one of our subsidiaries is planned, with the opportunity for project work beyond the varied curriculum. Trainees go to France or Switzerland; students for example may go to Ireland or the Chinese subsidiary in Shanghai. Trainees are taken on after completing their training; prospects and opportunities for promotion within the company are always available. The job opportunities in production, development, customer support or production technology, for example, are diverse.

Pilz even offers internships for school students: First impressions of the world of electronic automation are available via "annual holidays", "BORS" and"BOGY" (vocational orientation at secondary or grammar schools) or "Girls Days". But it's not just school students trying things out at Pilz; an internship is also possible to weigh up individual qualifications for a job in electrical engineering. Particularly when applicants have completed their training abroad or are returning to work.
In-house internships are one thing, but Pilz is also busy on-site: Pilz supports schools in the region via education partnerships. For example, it supports the Heinrich-Heine Grammar School in Ostfildern with specialist knowledge and teaching aids for physics, natural sciences and technology classes, where teaching also involves robotics for example. As well as this cooperation, Pilz also offers additional information events and job interview training for school students. "Pilz would like to provide practical relevance and orientation when students are deciding which vocational path to pursue", says Klaus Schneider, Training Manager at Pilz, explaining their objective in this collaboration.
Targeted support for the next generation
In addition to its involvement with local schools, the automation company also supports Esslingen University of Applied Sciences. As a member of the "Society of Friends of Esslingen University of Applied Sciences", Pilz offers various entry possibilities for students and graduates: including internships, work placements or degree theses – employing participants at a later date is always in Pilz's interests.
