The design validation is to verify the design before it moves to the implementation stage. A functional Safety Assessment can be undertaken after implementation and must be undertaken after stage 3 before the system goes live of the safety life cycle. Stage 2-After the safety instrumented system has been designed.

Pilz take a number of measures for the Design Validation including:

  • Confirming the  HAZOP/Risk Assessment in place
  • Checking the SRS conforms to the requirements of the HAZOP/Risk Assessment
  • Review the SIS to ensure it meets the SIL required
  • Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Verification
  • Review the Hardware selected
  • Review the Electrical drawing and P&ID’s
  • Software Review
  • Ensuring Safety Lifecycle Structure and planning are in place
