Safety Requirements Specification

Safety Requirements Specification: Your Needs

Safety_Requirements_Specification

The Safety Requirement Specification (SRS) contains the functional and integrity requirements for each Safety Instrumented Function (SIF). The SRS is the main reference document in which the design, installation, validation and operation of the system must follow. To be fully effective the SRS must be clear, concise, complete and consistent.

Before the system goes live the safety system should be validated against the SRS to ensure all requirements are met

The SRS is normally completed in two stages. In the first Stage, the SRS should be completed with all the required information from the HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA.  All the required trip points, field devices to be shut down and monitoring devices must be identified. In the second stage the SRS should be updated with any relevant information after commissioning. Any additional hazards that are identified must be reviewed by the HAZOP team.

Safety Requirements Specification: Our Approach

The Safety Requirement Specification (SRS) contains the functional and integrity requirements for each Safety Instrumented Function (SIF)

  • Description of the SIF
  • Definition of the safe states
  • Process Measurements and their trip points
  • Demand Rates
  • Proof test intervals
  • SIL level required
  • Process Outputs Actions
  • Cause and Effect Matrix ( relationship between inputs and outputs)
  • Manual shutdown and bypass requirements
  • Spurious Trip Rates
  • Failure Mode and SIS response to failures
  • Resetting requirements
  • Diagnostics interface to plant

Safety Requirements Specification: What We Do

Pilz create the HAZOP/LOPA if required by the customer and then develop the SRS with the data gathered. Once developed the design stage can then commence.

Safety Requirements Specification: Your Benefit

Through our experience and know-how Pilz have a full understanding of the link between the HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA and the engineering design for the Safety Instrumented System and so can provide an effective SRS.
