Automation company provides support for Industrial Security: “Security is a matter for everyone!” – German Chancellor Scholz visiting Pilz at Hannover Messe
During his tour after opening Hannover Messe 2023, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the stand of automation company Pilz. He was accompanied by Joko Widodo, the President of Indonesia, this year’s partner country of the exhibition. Renate Pilz, the former Chair of the Board, welcomed the guests alongside her daughter Susanne Kunschert and son Thomas Pilz, both of whom are managing partners of the family business.
“Security is a major issue for industry”
Susanne Kunschert presented the company and its global commitment to the safe and secure automation of plant and machinery: “Networking and digitisation present industry with new challenges in terms of Security. It is essential to protect plant and machinery in such a way that only authorised personnel have access and that manipulation of control systems via attacks from outside is prevented.” After all, as Kunschert added: “Without Security there's no Safety! Safety and productivity shortfalls are the consequence. A lack of Industrial Security constitutes a threat to Germany as a location for production and to industry worldwide.”
Thomas Pilz emphasised: “Security is a matter for politics and industry alike. Legislators in Europe have recognised its importance and are now bringing forward a raft of laws and regulations that will make the security of products and processes mandatory. Admittedly, this will place enormous demands on the mechanical engineering sector,” he told the guests. “With the knowledge we have gained from work on standards, user support and technical solutions, we can help our customers deliver on these requirements.”
75 years of Pilz – 75 years of German economic history
This year Pilz is celebrating its 75th anniversary. 1948, the year it was founded, is also regarded as the beginning of the social market economy in Germany. “Today we are a medium-sized family business that is considered the technology leader in its field. 75 years of Pilz are very closely associated with 75 years of German economic history,” Susanne Kunschert emphasised. The company is launching its anniversary year in Hanover under the motto “Values. Create. Future.”
Industry needs Safety and Security!
At Hannover Messe Pilz is presenting safe automation solutions focused on industrial transformation, the theme of this year’s fair.
In Hanover, the automation company will be demonstrating how industry can benefit from reliable Safety and Security. Pilz’s product range includes systems for controlling access permissions for machines and the Industrial Firewall SecurityBridge for protecting control networks. Other areas of focus will be safe I.A.M. (Identification and Access Management) as well as the safe automation of automated guided vehicle systems (AGV systems).
Pilz offers a platform for knowledge and mutual exchange on its stand with a dedicated expert panel on “Safety and Security”. Issues relating to Security and Machinery Safety throughout the plant and machine lifecycle take centre stage.
South-east Asia - a market of the future
“We are delighted that Indonesia is the partner country of the fair this year,” said Susanne Kunschert. “Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole are among the fastest-growing economic areas of the world. Automation in general, but especially Safety and Security, will have an important role to play in the further development of this region. That’s why we have had an active presence in Indonesia for a number of years.”
Pilz has been providing local support to customers in Indonesia and other ASEAN countries since 2016. Alongside Indonesia, these include Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. In addition to sales of products and systems, the subsidiary Pilz South East Asia offers its regional customers a complete service and support portfolio that includes technical consulting, customer project support and training.
