CO2 is not currently classed as a dangerous substance for the purpose of SEVESO, however, moves towards storage of large amounts of CO2 as a greenhouse gas reduction measure has prompted attention towards related hazards.
A HSE paper (April, 2010) details the case for inclusion of CO2 as a Seveso ‘hazardous substance’. The hazards considered are chiefly related to the release of large volumes of CO2 from high pressure storage systems and the toxic effects of the gas released.
