A new service is being launched to improve access to UK health and safety information, guidance and expert advice. By texting 'HSE' to 64446 you can now get the HSE Infoline to call you back within one hour.
This call back service is available from 09:00 to 17:00 and, if you cannot answer the telephone straight away, the operators will try three times. Note that there is no charge for using the HSE Infoline call back service, though service providers may charge their normal rate for you to send the text message.
As an alternative, the call back service can be accessed online via a form that requests your name, telephone number, the nature of your enquiry and your language preference. Other ways of contacting the HSE Infoline are a telephone number 0845 345 0055, fax number 0845 408 9566, email address firstname.lastname@example.org and an online enquiry form.
However, it may be worth checking the Infoline's FAQ (frequently asked questions) web page before submitting an enquiry, as this may have the answer you need.
People are sometimes hesitant to approach the HSE because they fear they may draw the wrong sort of attention to themselves. The problem with this attitude is that by failing to address a potential problem, it could develop into a real problem - with consequent injuries and/or financial costs. Indeed, it is worth remembering the old Chinese proverb: "He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever."
