Fit for the future with training and studies at Pilz - Research on the timetable

Cramming theory and practical exercises in the training workshop? These days, training or a dual course of study is much more versatile and means getting very familiar with research and future technologies. That’s why the automation company Pilz, based in Ostfildern, is committed to cooperation with research platforms such as ARENA2036. All young people at Pilz benefit from this, along with the eleven dual-study students and five trainees who start their professional careers at Pilz in early September.

Starting this year, Pilz's technical trainees can complete a work placement at Stuttgart’s research campus ARENA 2036 – a research platform, which develops new technologies for the car production of the future. “Through this cooperation our trainees will gain a deep insight into the work conducted in research projects. They will also become familiar with the technologies of tomorrow, so making them fit to meet the requirements of the future", says David Ballau, Instructor Vocational Training, summarising the cooperation. After all, digitisation and automation are becoming increasingly important in industry. The trainees will play an active role in projects at ARENA2036, applying their knowledge of protecting human and machine.

Safety first!
Ultimately, practical training at the Osttfildern-based family business focuses on machinery safety. It's an issue that provides an ideal complement to the syllabus during training or studies. The prospective “ambassadors for safety” use practical tasks to learn how manufacturing processes can be automated and at the same time designed to be safe. That’s why they pass through up to 13 different areas within the company – from customer support to production technology and development. Personal support from mentors and responsibility for their own projects ensure that individual strengths can emerge during training and then be encouraged.

Fit in every way for the day-to-day working life
Social and cultural skills are also strengthened. Trainees get involved in community work in the Filderwerkstatt, a workshop in Ostfildern for people with mental health issues or disabilities. Students and trainees also have the opportunity to take up placements abroad in the Pilz subsidiaries. That way they can hone their language skills and at the same time get to know “their” professional world in an international environment. So Pilz graduates are well equipped for the challenges of the working world.

For 16 trainees and dual-study students, September sees the start of a varied training course at Pilz, with exciting projects.
