The railway technology specialist Schweizer Electronic AG offers innovative solutions to safeguard construction sites, level crossings, and radio remote control systems for locomotives. In a remote control of a freight train locomotive from Bombardier the automation system PSS 4000-R(ail), as an interface between receiver and locomotive control, checks the signals for feasibility and consistency, and it ensures the requested safety in accordance with SIL3.
Safely move locomotives with the PSS 4000 automation system
PSS 4000 rail solves complex safety and control tasks
The Bombardier line locomotive equipped with the radio remote control system100 from Schweizer Electronic can dissolve or form freight trains without a driver. From a manual control the shunter moves the locomotive up to a distance of 1,000 m forth and back, he brakes and accelerates. Schweizer Electronic, responsible for control system, programming, validation and documentation had to clarify, among other things, how the additional performance and safety features could be implemented best in electrotechnical and control technology terms.
The automation system PSS 4000-R controls and monitors the safety-relevant signals. If the locomotive exceeds the specified travel speed, for example, the system initiates an automatic train stop. The rail modules robust against the electromagnetic interference, extreme temperatures and mechanical load that typically occur in a railway environment.
The benefits at a glance:
- SIL3-certified radio remote control system
- Suitable for a variety of use cases in railway technology
- Solves complex safety and control functions
- Makes the automated rail operations more flexible and productive
- Fulfils CENELEC approvals
- TÜV-approved, cost-effective, can be used as a standard
"We were looking for a powerful, safe and yet easy-to-use solution to be able to implement the diverse requirements from in an efficiently and cost-effectively. We found this solution with the automation system PSS 4000-R!“"
