Enhance safety with LOTO
Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) programs are fast becoming a ‘best practice’ approach to the isolation and control of hazardous energies. Lock Out Tag Out refers to the locking and tagging of machinery in isolation. The creation of machine isolation procedures for specific tasks and the training of machine operators also form part of a LOTO system.
Combining Remote Energy Isolation Systems with Lock Out Tag Out
For large manufacturing plants, the implementation of a remote energy isolation system can enhance the safety and simplicity of a LOTO system. Combining both systems allows for the effective remote monitoring and control of large numbers of isolation locations. Advantages include the simplification of procedures and single point lockout where one lock is used to control multiple devices.
A standard now exists governing energy isolation equipment
Until the publication of UL6420, a standard did not exist to govern equipment used for system isolation rated as a single unit. This standard is approved by ANSI, the American National Standards Institute. Energy isolation systems can now be built with a standard to adhere to.
