Pilz at the Hannover Messe 2024, Hall 9, Stand D17 – How Pilz is driving “Safety and Security in transformation” - Holistic support!

From 22-26 April 2024, the Hannover Fair will be focusing on the development of a sustainable manufacturing industry. Pilz will be supporting this change with a comprehensive portfolio for the fields of Safety, Security and Automation. One exhibition highlight is safe connectivity via the Pilz system solution, including a Master for IO-Link Safety. In the field of Security, the automation company will be presenting its new service: the Industrial Security Consulting Service (ISCS) In focus: production that’s reliably and sustainably protected. Another new factor is the focus on application scenarios that bring together automation and safety solutions in an “all-in-one” package – for greater consistency between automation and safety. In Hannover, Pilz will be showing how industry can be supported using holistic automation solutions.

Visitors to the Hannover Messe can obtain information about two “all-in-one” packages for drive applications, available from Pilz. These universal and therefore flexible solutions also have economy in mind. There are two differently configured packages to choose from: for machines with a medium function range and machines with a more complex function range. Users only need to factor in what they actually need, so they save on investment costs. At the heart, in each case, is the configurable small controller PNOZmulti 2 with FSoE connection. On its stand, the expert in safe automation will be demonstrating practical application scenarios: controlling a conveyor as an example of a medium application, and controlling a gripper arm with several synchronous axes for the more complex application.

Support transformation through safe communication
Safe communication with the field is a prerequisite for a successful transformation: Pilz will demonstrate how safe data communication can be implemented for every sensor in the field using its complete IO-Link Safety system comprising Master, field devices and accessories, and also how this guarantees greater availability and more flexible automation. In Hannover, visitors will experience the benefits of this complete solution on an interlinked automation plant with integrated robotics. Safe data transfer via the open communication system EtherCAT, in combination with the safe protocol Safety over EtherCAT FSoE, is also an issue. Safe data transfer can be implemented simply using FSoE-capable solutions – with the small safety controller PNOZmulti 2 for example. In focus: flexible connection of safety-related plant structures.

Security as the guardian of transformation
With the new Machinery Regulation, Industrial Security will become mandatory by 2027 at the latest. In the connected world of automation, Safety and Security are now a unit: the change process has already begun. Pilz is supporting this process with appropriate products and services, such as I.A.M., which combines Safety (operating mode selection) and Security (access permission). New at this trade fair: the operation element PIT oe ETH, which can be used for Security, with activatable Ethernet port. As an industrial Ethernet interface, the new operator pushbutton can be activated and deactivated electrically. That way only authorised personnel have the ability to activate interfaces temporarily, for new configurations for example.

Know your protection requirements, guarantee Security
Users must know how much Security they need. That’s why Pilz is introducing its new Security Service ISCS, as a further highlight. It comprises a complete Industrial Security service, including the following steps: “Protection Requirements Analysis”, “Industrial Security Risk Assessment”, “Industrial Security Concept”, “Industrial Security System Integration” and “Industrial Security System Verification” – and determines the individual Security requirements. The Security Service supports users, enabling them to implement efficient, all-round manipulation protection against internal and external attacks. In addition, Pilz experts will be providing information about the TÜV Nord-certified qualification for Industrial Security “CESA - Certified Expert for Security in Automation”.

Holistic automation for a “green” Norway
This year’s partner country of the Hannover Fair is Norway. The country covers almost half of its total final energy consumption from hydroelectric power; the intention is to accelerate the development of this electrification, and thus also the decarbonisation of industry. Pilz is supporting this change: since 1996, the automation company has had a local presence via Pilz Scandinavia, providing products and solutions for automation and for safety in the field of sustainable power generation.
