EULYNX adapter from Pilz enables compatibility of interlockings with a manufacturer-independent standard - Enabler for Rail 4.0

With the EULYNX adapter, the automation expert Pilz offers a product solution for railway infrastructure companies, to use the manufacturer-independent and transnational EULYNX standard in existing interlockings and thus promote digitalisation of the railway. Using this adapter, operators can implement rail modernisation tasks efficiently.

Manufacturer-independent and transnational approaches are the basis for successful digitalisation in the rail sector and thus are replacing proprietary solutions. The European EULYNX standard provides such a manufacturer-independent interface between various control and safety technology components.

Translators for the tracks of tomorrow

The EULYNX adapter from Pilz incorporates existing interlockings into communication with so-called object controllers. These translate the digital control commands from the interlockings into analogue signals for the trackside components, such as points or light signals. The basis for the EULYNX adapter is the automation system PSS 4000, which has railway-specific certifications and can be used in applications up to SIL 4. This modular, individually configurable PLC controller provides users with an appropriate solution for their specific rail application.

Efficient conversion in keeping with the timetable

One benefit of this solution is that the line can be converted in stages, without long, cost-intensive line closures. As a result, investments in digital rail infrastructure can take place gradually. Due to its openness and compatibility, the EULYNX adapter represents an important component for the rapid implementation of transnational, manufacturer-independent digitalisation in control and safety technology.
