Pilz Automation Safety’s revolutionary product SafetyEYE® has been awarded top honor in Control Engineering’s Engineers’ Choice Awards.

(CANTON,MI) – Pilz Automation Safety’s revolutionary product SafetyEYE has been awarded top honor in Control Engineering’s Engineers’ Choice Awards in the Machine and Embedded Control-Safety category. The awards highlight the most notable new products from the previous year. Ballots were sent to subscribers from Control Engineering’s opt-in e-mail list who specified they were responsible for or influence technology purchases, or have daily interaction with the technologies in each respective area. Respondents were asked to choose products they felt were the most exceptional, based on the following criteria: technological advancement, service to the industry and market impact. "The fact that the engineering community recognizes the significance of the technology behind SafetyEYE and voted it number one is a real testament to the fact that we are driving innovation in the safety industry” said, Roberta Nelson Shea, C.O.O & general manager, Pilz Automation Safety L.P. Nearly 750 completed ballots were received and counted.

SafetyEYE is a camera-based three-dimensional monitoring system that safeguards people working or around hazardous operations. SafetyEYE uses three dynamic digital cameras positioned above the work area to provide continuous monitoring. A control unit receives the images via fiber optics, analyzes the data and creates a virtual 3D image of the work area. Then, using configuration software, 3D zones are established to identify safe and hazardous areas. Once detected SafetyEYE controls or eliminates the hazard, protecting the worker from injury and the process from interruption. SafetyEYE can adapt motion to reduce a hazard, rather than completely shut down a machine. In addition, SafetyEYE has the option of defining virtual zones for the actuation of any process.
